Wow, has it really been a year since my last update here? A lot has happened in this year, except maybe blog posts. My daughter got engaged, my book was revised and re-revised, our old dog passed away, my ARCs arrived, my daughter got married, my book reviews started coming in. And POOF! just like that, release day is little more than a week away!
I’m very excited to see Bobby Lee, who Booklist calles “Cocky but disarmingly naive” stepping out into the world. So excited, in fact, that I’ve scheduled a number of events to present him to the world. I hope there is an event near YOU, dear reader, and you will come help me celebrate! Here’s a list of what’s on the schedule so far:
SEPTEMBER 26 at 6:30 PM at the BOULDER BOOKSTORE in Boulder, CO.
Join me along with my fabulous friends Tara Dairman and Melanie Crowder as we celebrate the release of not one, but THREE fun new books for middle grade readers! That’s like a triple threat! or a triple header! or a hat trick! or…hmm. running out of sports metaphors here. The point is THREE FUND NEW BOOKS!!!!
Next up, OCTOBER 8 at 2:00 PM at BOOK PEOPLE in Austin, Texas.
Looking forward to seeing all my very dear Austin friends, and making a few new ones! Once again, you get a chance at THREE great books! Three, people! That’s like a triple play! or a triple crown! or…oh, never mind.
This time Tara Dairman and I are teaming up with Christina Soontornvat
Once again, there will be tasty treats and lots of fun, including a game of TRUTH OR DARE. Last time a fellow author challenged me to a dare I ended up recreating Masterpiece Theater while wearing a chicken suit. So, I’m thinking you won’t want to miss this one.
October 13th, I will be at the MOUNTAIN PLAINS INDEPENDENT BOOKSELLERS ASSOCIATION’S FALL DISCOVERY SHOW in Denver.
I will be signing books at the HOLIDAY HOUSE booth in the morning, and participating in the Young Readers Roundup in the afternoon. If you are a bookseller, I hope you will stop by and see me!
October 14 1:30-4:30 PM: join me for BOOKS AND TEA
at Valmont Community Presbyterian Church 3262 61st Street, Boulder, CO. This event is a scholarship fundraiser, sponsored by the Boulder Chapter of PEO. For $25, you get a lovely high tea, hear from–once again–THREE Colorado authors (three is a very lucky number), and support scholarships for up to 9 women! What could be better? The authors will be:
Lydia Reeder, author of Dust Bowl Girls
Jeannie Mobley, author of Bobby Lee Claremont and the Criminal Element
David Baron, author of American Eclipse
FOR TICKETS: Call Karen Truesdell 720-469-2540
or Donna Racette 303-652-3116
“But wait,” you say. “I’m a writer and want a chance not just to buy your book, but to pick your brain!” Well, then, you will want to join me
OCTOBER 15th at 1:00PM at SECOND STAR TO THE RIGHT BOOKSTORE in Denver
for my author’s salon on the topic of Developing Point of View. This is a free event but requires preregistration here.
AND LAST BUT FAR FROM LEAST:
SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 5, 2:00 PM, Tattered Cover Bookstore, Colfax Ave, Denver, CO
THE BIG SOLO RELEASE PARTY for BOBBY LEE CLAREMONT AND THE CRIMINAL ELEMENT!!!
I know, I know, the book will already have been out in the world for 5 weeks, but cut me some slack here! I planned a whole wedding in August. I needed a little time to get up to speed on a BIG PARTY for Bobby Lee!
For my Denver friends and fans who can’t make Boulder on a weeknight, or who want to party like it’s 1923, or who’ve always wanted to learn the Charleston, this is the one for you!
Join me for a Jazz-era party, with fun and games, books, and the fabulous folks from BOULDER SWING DANCE, who will not only show us how the pros danced in 1923, but will teach us a few slick moves of our own.
Come in your best flapper or gangster wear!
Prizes for costumes!
Prizes for games!
Prizes for dancing!!!!
And plenty of copies of the book Booklist calls “Wonderfully cinematic,” and “lively”
I plan to have more later in November in Saint Louis, MO, in conjunction with the NCTE conference, so stay tuned. In the mean time, come see me at one of these events!
